2012-2013 Symphony Orchestra with Steve Davis
What instrument(s) do you play?
Why did you audition for the Youth Symphony in your senior year?
I was considering a major in music performance in college and wanted experience performing with equally as driven musicians.
Is there a highlight from your time with the Youth Symphony? If so, what was it?
Playing at the Kauffman Center with the Kansas City Symphony was the biggest highlight for me. Having the opportunity to engage one-on-one with professional musicians was incredibly educational and just all-around fun.
Share with us what are you doing today and how music influenced your career choice.
Today, I am an acoustical consultant in Denver designing performance spaces. Music had a heavy influence on my career path, but I knew I didn’t want to only focus on music because my other interests were always math and science. I learned about acoustical consulting in high school and found the perfect combination of the three.
Can you describe what you do as an acoustical consultant?
As an acoustical consultant, it is my job to ensure that sound is controlled and noise is reduced in spaces where human comfort is crucial. I deal with a variety of aspects relating to acoustics such as room acoustics, room shaping, sound isolation, mechanical noise isolation, and vibration isolation. On a daily basis I am writing reports and running calculations to predict the acoustical performance of a wide variety of spaces ranging from concert halls to laboratories.
What advice do you have for the current group of musicians in the Youth Symphony?
